  • This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.

We are seeking a Risk Manager to play an integral role as a key member of our Treasury and Risk Management Team.  In this role, you will be responsible for establishing and executing strategies for the company’s risk management program including determining insurance levels, self-insurance, commercial insurance, captive use, property loss control programs and claims administration.

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Manage and negotiate placement of global insurance coverage for various lines of coverage including Property and Business Interruption, Terrorism, Liability, Cargo, Directors and Officers (D&O), Fiduciary, Crime, Cyber, workers comp and Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP)
  • Conduct annual evaluation of program structures, terms and conditions, retained and transferred risks to optimize programs for evolving risks and identify costs saving opportunities
  • Regularly meet with senior leadership, including Board of Directors, providing high-level updates on state of the insurance market, coverage cost and structure, renewal strategy and claims activity
  • Be a thought partner with various parts of the organization to develop and maintain risk management tools and frameworks to identify, measure, and manage market risks, including feedstock, foreign exchange, interest rate management, electricity, and carbon credits while ensuring compliance with corporate risk management policies
  • Advise on various matters of risk as it applies to all types and aspects of insurance
  • Manage all phases of the claims process from intake and investigation through to settlement or litigation collaborating with brokers, claim adjusters, experts, counsel and other involved parties
  • Develop and foster positive relationships with global brokers and insurers, insurance risk engineers and peer Risk Professionals
  • Coordinate and prepare comprehensive renewal submissions to accurately portray NOVA Chemicals’ risks, business and operations to brokers and underwriters
  • Coordinate and facilitate loss prevention inspections of NOVA Chemicals’ facilities with insurers and brokers
  • Prepare and oversee budget for annual insurance premiums including allocations as well as departmental expenses
  • Oversee the captive management from the owner’s perspective ensuring timely audits and regulatory filings
  • Support all NOVA Chemicals business ventures such as joint ventures and major capital programs

 

What We Are Looking For:

  • University graduate or equivalent with 10+ years’ experience in risk management, insurance, reinsurance, process safety and/or loss engineering
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and succinctly to effectively deliver key messages verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to collaborate with people from various levels of the organization to achieve goals

Additional Information:

  • Relocation will NOT be considered for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • This role requires up to 25% travel
  • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver’s license
