Compensation, Recognition & Savings

In addition to our competitive base salaries, we recognize and reward your efforts through our Incentive Compensation Plans.

To assist you in achieving your financial goals, we also provide the following savings plan options: Group Registered Retirement Savings Plan (Group RRSP), Group Tax-Free Savings Account (Group TSFA), and the Non-Registered Savings Plan (NRSP).

To help employees prepare for retirement, NOVA Chemicals will contribute a set percentage of your pensionable earnings into a Defined Contribution (DC) Account.

Work Life Balance

We understand the importance of a healthy work life balance. That’s why we provide employees with a minimum of 3 weeks paid vacation, prorated in the year of hire. In addition, we provide floating holidays, flex days, recognized paid statutory holidays, and offer a number of paid and unpaid leave of absence options.

Alternative work arrangements (AWA) assist in increasing flexibility for our workforce and our ability to attract and retain diverse employees. This program is in place to support unique work arrangement needs when the business area is able to accommodate an AWA.

Examples of AWA are job-sharing and phased retirement. In addition to AWA, NOVA Chemicals has a Connected Workplace Policy which outlines flexible work from home options for eligible positions.

Flexible Benefits

We offer Health and Dental coverage. In addition, we also offer a Health Spending Account (HSA) to better suit your unique needs. The HSA allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars to help pay for eligible out-of-pocket expenses that are over and above your NOVA Chemicals supplemental health and dental plan coverage.

In order to help protect your financial security, we also offer Life, Accident, and Disability Insurance.

Employee Wellness

The well-being of you and your family is important to NOVA Chemicals.

We offer an Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) which is designed to provide you and your dependents with confidential support for a wide range of personal and work-related challenges.   Examples include counseling services and support for personal life matters like mental health, child and elder care, legal and financial advice. 

There are also a variety of online tools and resources to support your well-being, including a wellness platform. This proactive tool is available to help you focus on maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Participants are eligible to receive incentives each quarter which can be redeemed for rewards.

Personal Growth & Education

We are committed to supporting you in your endeavor to achieve your highest potential, and we do this by providing financial assistance toward continuing education pursuits. This assistance is available to enable employee growth that contributes to the company’s overall business success (you must be an active employee prior to the beginning of the course to be eligible for this program with leader approval).

Also, to encourage any dependent children of employees to further their education beyond the Secondary School level, we provide financial assistance towards tuition (you must have a minimum of one year of service prior to the start of the academic year/semester being applied to, to participate in this program).

Relocation Assistance

In Canada, we have locations in Sarnia, Ontario, Red Deer, and Calgary, Alberta.  Should you need to relocate, we provide various relocation programs to support moving on to your new chapter in your career.
