  • This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.

We are currently seeking a Risk Analyst to play an integral role as a key member of our Treasury and Risk Management Team. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and analyzing the risks and exposures of NOVA Chemicals as well as leading and assisting in the placement of its insurances. You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Proactively serve as an insurance subject matter expert, providing appropriate advice for claim reporting, premium estimates and allocations, and general insurance questions
  • Lead and/or assist in the negotiation and settlement of various claims across all coverage lines
  • Be a thought partner with various parts of the organization to develop and maintain risk management tools and frameworks to identify, measure, and manage market risks, including feedstock, foreign exchange, interest rate management, electricity, and carbon credits while ensuring compliance with corporate risk management policies
  • Partner with Procurement and Feedstock teams to perform risk assessments on key vendors and suppliers upon request, while also owning a small portfolio of customers performing their risk and credit reviews
  • Coordinate, prepare and present professional submissions that accurately reflect NOVA Chemicals’ business and operations to brokers and underwriters
  • Review the insurance provisions within contracts and offer advice to operations, legal and other professionals throughout the organization
  • Be a subject matter expert on various matters of risk as it applies to all types and aspects of insurance
  • Work with NOVA Chemicals Operations and Responsible Care specialists as requested on studies and projects in the loss prevention and risk assessment field
  • Work daily with and help manage the resources of NOVA Chemicals’ insurance brokers, insurer contacts and loss prevention specialists
  • Support all NOVA Chemicals business ventures such as joint ventures and major capital programs
  • Provide NOVA Chemicals enterprise risk management with exposure analysis support that helps provide business units with reliable and creative strategies
  • Participate in enterprise risk management policy development and review when requested
  • Attend and coordinate site inspections with insurance representatives and site personnel
  • Facilitate implementation of survey, audit and other regulatory insurance recommendations and requirements.

 

What We Are Looking For:

  • University graduate or equivalent with 8+ years’ experience in risk management, insurance, reinsurance, process safety and/or loss engineering
  • Professional designation in risk management or insurance would be an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to work in a high energy, fast-paced team environment
  • Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines and support internal and external initiatives in a timely manner
  • Broad knowledge of liability, executive risk, automobile, workers compensation, and loss prevention practices
  • Ability to travel to NOVA Chemicals sites and to international insurance markets as required
  • Operations and engineering experience a plus
  • Experience with the usage of a single parent captive to manage risk a plus

  • Relocation will NOT be considered for this position
  • This role requires up to 25% travel
  • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver’s license
