We are seeking a Unit Mechanical Inspector to join our Inspection Team located at our Joffre Site in Central Alberta, near Red Deer. This position will be responsible for the continued integrity of pressure and non-pressure equipment and piping in your assigned unit through the adherence to our Pressure Equipment Integrity Management System (PEIMS) and supporting procedures and processes.

 

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Complete regular inspections in the field, including monitoring & analysis
  • Manage inspections for regulatory compliance within area of responsibility and coordinate the completion of inspections with a multidiscipline work team
  • Generate detailed inspection reports that accurately captures inspection findings and recommendations
  • Develop and/or support the development of repair plans that comply with the requirements of our PEIMS, applicable Codes, and the Safety Codes Act
  • Certify completed pressure equipment repairs
  • Initiate/update Inspection Interval Assessments (IIA) following a full inspection
  • Update Inspection Plans following a full inspection
  • Maintain Condition Monitoring Location (CML) survey
  • Review and complete Pressure Relief Device (PRD) service and setting reports
  • Complete PRD interval assessments
  • Support Turnaround activities as required
  • Coordinate the work of NDE service providers and ensure that NOVA Chemicals Safety Procedures are adhered to at all times

 

What We Are Looking For:

  • Welding, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering Technologist Diploma (2 year) or related Degree (4 year) with 8+ years of related experience OR 10+ years combination of post secondary technical education and related experience
  • Experience in a Petrochemical/Refinery Plant or equivalent work environment 
  • API 510 Certification is required
  • ABSA In-Service Inspector Certification (ISI) is required
  • API 571 certification or an understanding of damage mechanisms would be considered an asset
  • API 570 and 653 certifications would be considered an asset
  • Results orientated with an understanding and utilization of processes and procedures
  • Strong critical thinking skills and an aptitude for thinking outside of the box
  • Demonstrated continuous drive to improve and ability to challenge the status quo
  • Ability to work safely, effectively and independently in a team environment
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in team interactions and building positive relationships 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Additional Information:

  • Relocation will be considered for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • This role requires up to 10% travel
  • Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasons
  • Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the units
  • Overtime and callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation
  • In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
  • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver’s license
