We are seeking Rail Technicians to join our Rail Operations Team located at our Joffre Site in Central Alberta, near Red Deer. This team is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of locomotives and rolling stock within a petrochemical plant environment.

 

You Will Use Your Expertise To: 

  • Safely and reliably monitor and operate locomotives and perform switchperson duties.
  • Ensure timely delivery of NOVA products by enabling prompt loading and unloading of rail cars.
  • Meet schedules and timelines to ensure business needs are met.
  • Shunt, haul, deliver, check, and inspect rail equipment.
  • Provide ownership of rail yards and associated equipment by monitoring performance of equipment and initiating maintenance requests as required.
  • Maintain accurate reports and record production data.
  • Drive operational excellence by championing a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and train other Rail Technicians in qualified duties.
  • Participate in team safety meetings, safety audits, and follow-ups.
  • Participate in procedure reviews.

 

What We Are Looking For: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license.
  • Prior experience working with and operating rail equipment including locomotives, rolling stock, track switches, etc.
  • A passion for Responsible Care® performance excellence and alignment with NOVA's values and culture.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Excel, SAP, and GVP applications would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact with and support a team culture.

  • A self-starter who is resourceful and has demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Additional Information:

  • Relocation will be considered for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • This role requires no/ad hoc travel 
  • This is a 12-hour rotating shift position
  • Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasons
  • Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the units
  • Overtime and callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation
  • In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
  • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver’s license
