  • This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.

NOVA Chemicals, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is wholly-owned by Mubadala Investment Company of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

 

We are seeking a Process Control Engineer to join our Process Automation Team located at our Joffre Site in Central Alberta, near Red Deer. In this role, you will provide process control support to one of our Ethylene plants. Opportunity to support other Ethylene or Polyethylene units may exist in the long-term.

 

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Design, implement, maintain, and continually optimize control strategies on Honeywell TPS and PKS systems including advanced control and automated procedures.
  • Demonstrate programming capabilities on Honeywell DCS (TPS, PKS).
  • Lead the hazard review process for process control strategies.
  • Audit controller benefits.
  • Develop and maintain HMI’s (operator interface).
  • Provide process control support for unit and capital projects.
  • Perform alarm management activities.
  • Work as part of the plant multidisciplinary team to monitor plant performance and initiate action to improve.
  • Monitor and maintain the integrity of the control system database.
  • Lead or participate in incident investigations.
  • Provide technical assistance to the facility operating teams.
  • Collaborate with project team to implement new APC that will support future RTO development.

 

What We Are Looking For:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering with experience or interest in pursuing process automation/process control engineering
  • Ideally 8+ years of related engineering experience
  • Registered or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA or an equivalent Canadian engineering governing body
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated Responsible Care® values related to environmental, health and safety.
  • Ability to adapt and contribute within a dynamic and changing environment
  • Experience with any of the following is of significant value:
  • Pavilion advanced control software
  • Aspen DMC3
  • Honeywell DCS (TPS, PKS)
  • Programming / scripting languages such as:
    • VB script
    • Jscript
    • Powershell

  • Relocation will be considered for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • Overtime and callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation
