Nova Chemicals – Geismar Olefins is seeking a Process Engineer Team Lead to join our team at the Geismar, Louisiana site. The Team Lead will report to the Site Director and will have 6 direct reports. The Process Engineer team provides engineering and daily technical support for activities at the Geismar Plant.

 

 You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Provide effective people leadership to a multidisciplinary team (3 – Process Engineers, 2- Process Control Engineers, 1- Process Safety Management Engineer).
  • Provide technical support during plant turnarounds and minor outages. Team Leader is expected to provide technical support for: scope determination, facility change management, equipment inspections, and plant start-ups.
  • Monitor daily plant operation and performance looking for opportunities to optimize existing plant capabilities. Team Leader will be required to lead Process Engineering Team through process designs, economic analyses and initial front-end engineering for process improvement, process optimization and capital projects.
  • Provide technical discipline leadership during plant turnarounds and minor outages to foster collaboration, leveraging learnings, and skill development within the Geismar site.
  • Challenge the status quo and provide leadership in continuous improvement and change initiatives to drive improvement to business results.
  • Provide leadership support for designs, economic analyses and initial front-end engineering for process improvement, process optimization and capital projects.
  • Serve as the Lead Technical Authority during PHA and Risk-Based Inspection revalidations.
  • Participate in the Facility Change Management Process (FCM) by executing and completing Pre-Startup Safety Reviews, Process Hazard Analyses, and other technical processes.
  • Lead and provide technical expertise, with the ability to communicate effectively on issues across the organization, and demonstrate a collaborative work style (with peers, employees, etc.) within and across functions.
  • Gain alignment and resolve conflicts within cross-discipline work groups.
  • Knowledgeable in use of distributed control systems operator interface (TDC3000 and Experion).
  • Proficient use of DCS control data historians to develop process monitoring, evaluation and troubleshooting tools/spreadsheets.

What We Are Looking For:

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering with a minimum of 10+ years of varied and increasing level of responsibility and experience in chemical processing preferably in an Olefins Manufacturing environment (ethane to ethylene cracking) and 5 years in Operations.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with the ability to coach and develop teams and individuals through effective performance management.
  • The ability to adapt, learn and work in fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Aspen Plus, Aspen EDR, Aspen Simulation Workbook experience.
