  • This position is based onsite at the primary work location and offers a 9/80 work schedule, with every other Friday off. Employees may opt out of the 9/80 schedule and work Monday through Friday onsite.

We are seeking a passionate and results-driven leader to join our team as a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Leader for our Manufacturing South facility near Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In this role, you will play a critical part in shaping and driving HSE initiatives, ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental performance. You will lead key strategic efforts, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, employees, and stakeholders.

 

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Serve as a key member of the Geismar South Leadership Team (GSLT), identifying Environmental, Health, Safety and Security (EHS&S) priorities and ensuring the overall health of the Geismar EHS&S Management System (RC14001).
  • Collaborate with the corporate HSE Leadership Team and other Regional HSE Leaders to align organizational priorities.
  • Actively support in Community Practices to drive continuous improvement in HSE.
  • Lead multiple EHS&S functions, working closely with NOVA Chemicals leadership, employees, and contractors to achieve EHS&S excellence.
  • Drive EHS&S initiatives through the Geismar South RC14001 Management System, using Continuous Improvement (CI) principles.
  • Integrate Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) practices at the Geismar Site.
  • Represent EHS&S by engaging with internal and external stakeholders and industry organizations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS&S policies, procedures, and programs to promote a safe working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations for EHS&S.  Including but not limited to Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ), Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and United States Coast Guard (USCG).
  • Foster the growth and development of team members while overseeing the execution of strategic Geismar Site priorities.
  • Track and analyze EHS&S performance metrics, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans to address EHS&S performance gaps.
  • Benchmark company practices against industry standards and recommend enhancements.

 

What We Are Looking For:

Bachelor’s degree in Natural or Applied Sciences (or equivalent) with 10+ years of practical experience, OR 2-year technical diploma with 12+ years of related practical experience.

  • 8+ years of formal leadership experience, with a proven track record of driving improvements, influencing across an organization, and achieving results.
  • Preferred certifications include CIH and/or CSP.
  • Technical and functional knowledge of industrial safety, occupational health, loss prevention (emergency response, fire protection, security), environmental and industrial hygiene. 
  • Strong ability to inspire, coach, and develop teams and individuals through effective performance management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to HSE principles with in-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Capacity to balance strategic and tactical thinking, considering both short-term and long-term objectives.
  • Ability to track key performance metrics, analyze trends, and drive corrective actions.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across diverse teams and effectively influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to internalize and articulate the company's vision, mission, and values.
  • Strong capacity for change and ability to drive transformation.
  • Passion for continuous improvement and commitment to enhancing safety and compliance.

Additional Information:

  • Relocation will be considered for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • This role requires up to 10% travel
  • Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasons
  • Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the units
  • Callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation
  • In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to travel easily between Canada and the U.S.
  • The position will require a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC®) through the Transportation Security Administration
