NOVA Chemicals, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is wholly-owned by Mubadala Investment Company of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

 

We are seeking a Lab Technician to join our team at the Geismar Site. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining safe, efficient, and reliable operations. As a Lab Technician, you will conduct analytical testing, monitor plant effluents, and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure the highest quality standards in our continuous production process.

 

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Perform technical and analytical testing on in-process and final product samples using Gas Chromatography (GC), Liquid Chromatography (LC), and titration methods.
  • Accurately record and input sample results into a computerized data system for plant access.
  • Conduct environmental sampling and monitor plant effluents to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instrumentation to ensure optimal performance.
  • Manage inventory for bulk chemicals and laboratory supplies.
  • Assist with plant inspections and support environmental compliance efforts.
  • Contribute to the administrative upkeep of the plant chemistry manual, technical references, diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
  • Identify and report any abnormal or irregular conditions and take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Support process improvement initiatives to enhance lab efficiency, accuracy, and safety.

 

What We Are Looking For:

  • An Associate’s Degree in Sciences, Process Technology, or equivalent, along with at least two years of experience in a chemical plant environment.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Preferred experience in water treatment, power plants, or the chemical industry.
  • Experience in QC/QA lab settings is considered an asset.
  • Solid understanding of chemistry analytical procedures, laboratory techniques, and online chemistry monitoring equipment.
  • Familiarity with state-of-the-art laboratory analyzers is highly desirable.
  • A general understanding of environmental regulations and compliance requirements is beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and effective time management.
  • An absolute commitment to Responsible Care®.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Additional Information:

  • Relocation will NOT be considered for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • This role requires up to 10% travel
  • This position will work on a seven (7) day (including weekends and holidays), twelve (12) hour rotating days/nights schedule
  • Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasons
  • Duties will include standing, walking, bending, stooping and squatting for long periods of time as well as some lifting and some climbing of ladders within various levels of the units.
  • Overtime and callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation
  • In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
  • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver’s license
  • The position will require a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC®) through the Transportation Security Administration.
