NOVA Chemicals, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is wholly-owned by Mubadala Investment Company of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

 

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Geismar, Louisiana team to support the preventative and predictive maintenance programs for the maintenance of all the instrument, electrical and analyzer equipment within the site using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

 

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

In this role you will provide Electrical Engineering support to a specified facility, working closely with operations, maintenance, and other technical disciplines under the direct supervision and mentor of an experienced Engineer.

 

Your responsibilities could include the following:

  • Support the Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Maintenance group with assessment, implementation, and project management of facility I&E needs
  • Gather event reports from electrical relays, instrument diagnostics, DCS, SIS systems, or other software to determine the initiating event of related equipment failures
  • Provide support to the Engineering team for the I&E Maintenance Technicians on certain specialized electrical, instrumentation, analyzer and controls equipment applications and equipment when necessary (e.g., diagnosing variable frequency drive issues)
  • Develop I&E Engineering Packages to support Maintenance Projects, Bad Actors, and Continuous Improvement efforts for non-capital related projects

 

What We Are Looking For:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering is required
  • Intern experience in an electrical and instrumentation related role preferably in a chemical manufacturing facility will be considered an asset
  • Basic electrical theory and a general knowledge of instrumentation and analytical technology as it applies to specifying and applying equipment

 

In addition, the successful candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of electrical fundamentals as used in industrial environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure and demonstrate high-level problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel 
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to understand and interpret drawings and specifications
  • Ability to use PC and associated software applications to collect data and produce spreadsheets, databases, and reports
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts (verbal and written)
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with all individuals

Additional Information:

  • Relocation will be considered for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • This role requires up to 10% travel
  • Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasons
  • Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the units
  • Overtime and callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation
  • In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
  • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver’s license
  • The position will require a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC®) through the Transportation Security Administration.
