We are seeking a Turnaround Events Manager to join our Turnaround Team located at our Corunna Site, near Sarnia Ontario. The primary focus of this position is to develop and implement project management governance into all phases of a turnaround event.

 

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Drive accountability for establishing robust project management principles during turnaround initiatives, with a strong emphasis on project risk management, human resource strategies, and effective communication frameworks.
  • Act as the project management content expert for Manufacturing East Turnarounds, coach, and mentor the Turnaround Team on project management principles and theory.
  • Incorporate best practices and learnings from previous turnaround events into the Turnaround project management principles.
  • Hold responsibility for the execution of the project management plan for one business unit Turnaround, ensuring all Turnaround milestones are met with planned high-quality deliverables.
  • Oversee the execution of the project risk management plan, ensuring all scope is thoroughly assessed against established practices and defined risk tolerances.
  • Manage the execution of the communication plan by identifying key stakeholders and escalating issues as needed to ensure timely and effective communication with the Turnaround Leader and Core Team.
  • Coordinate the Turnaround resource plan that is required to plan and execute the assigned Turnaround.
  • Maintain compliance with all appropriate work processes. Work processes include WCR & Corporate Turnaround and Manufacturing East Turnaround procedures.
  • Drive competitiveness of Manufacturing East Site Turnarounds through continuous improvement initiatives, participate in industry benchmarking, networking and turnaround auditing.
  • Establish an integrated turnaround schedule that encompasses all business partners.
  • Align with the turnaround milestone schedule, ensure that all optimization actions, assurance reviews, schedule optimization workshops, peer reviews, etc. are completed.
  • Develop, implement and facilitate the use of Visual Management Boards to monitor, display and analyze performance against KPI’s.
  • Remove obstacles (alignment, resource constraints, work processes) to ensure successful execution of the Turnaround event.
  • Organize and facilitate the Turnaround event lookback (AAR), post investment review, and identification of future focus improvement areas.
  • Co-facilitate the management of the execution team with the Execution Manager during turnaround execution. Support the Team Leader, developing tactical implementation plans and procedures that align to Turnaround corporate strategic initiatives.
  • Develop turnaround continuous improvement strategies with the Turnaround Leader that can be shared with NOVA Chemicals Center of Excellence Team.
  • Ensure that the Manufacturing East Turnarounds are planned and executed in compliance with safety and environmental standards and regulations.

 

What We Are Looking For:

  • 2-year technical school diploma with 12+ years of relevant experience, OR 14+ years combination of post-secondary technical education and relevant experience in Turnaround management, maintenance execution and/or operations.
  • A proven track record in Construction Management, with Project Management experience.
  • Leadership skills and management experience with key turnaround roles which include project management, Turnaround planning, scheduling, field coordination, and project controls leading large Turnaround teams (e.g. 500,000 FTE hours or more).
  • A working knowledge of manufacturing technical disciplines (engineering, millwright, instrumentation, electrical).
  • Previous work experience in a petrochemical, refining or upgrading facility preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SAP, Primavera, MS Office Suite and SharePoint will be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and presenting full day training and orientation events to groups ranging from 10 – 50 employees and contractors. Public speaking is a requirement of this role.

Additional Information:

  • Relocation will be considered for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • This role requires up to 10% travel
  • Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasons
  • Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the units
  • Callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation
  • In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
  • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver’s license
