We are seeking a talented individual to fill the role of  Utilities Production Coordinator at the Corunna Site. You will have the opportunity to work in a changing and collaborative environment where you can influence and positively impact the organization. Operations Coordinators provide technical direction and identify area priorities for operations. This role will report directly to the Olefins Utilities Area Work Team Leader.

 

 

You Will Use Your Expertise in the Following Areas:

HSE:

  • Typically assumes “Incident Manager” responsibilities to identify root cause(s), make recommendations to prevent reoccurrence, and communicate learnings to others.
  • Reviews incidents for accuracy and thoroughness, providing feedback where required.
  • Ensures incident investigations are completed in a timely manner.
  • Overall accountability and ownership to ensure operating procedures remain accurate.
  • Develops operating procedures and/or reviews them for accuracy and HSE compliance.
  • Completes final review and approval of new or revised operating procedures.
  • Collaborates with the Training Specialist when procedures are created or changed.
  • Supports Area Work Team meetings (i.e. APS - Area problem Solving, etc.), and shares identified trends with Operating Technicians and Shift Supervisors.
  • Participates in and/or facilitates hazard reviews for their work areas (HAZOP, LOPA, What if, SQRA, etc.). Addresses issues arising out of hazard reviews.
  • Assists in the response to unit upsets and emergencies.

 

Extended Leadership

  • Participates in and leads the development of unit operations strategies to achieve business objectives:
    • Identifies and drives unit priorities to ensure safe, reliable operation.
    • Clear technical direction for Operations Technicians (e.g. daily operating instructions)
    • Reports current unit status /issues to Area Work Team
    • Identifies and evaluates risk of continued operation and maintenance tasks.
    • Develops critical operations contingency plans.
  • Monitors and optimizes unit performance, in conjunction with Area Contact Engineer and Operating Technicians.
  • Provides input into shift team balancing decisions.
  • Communicates with Operating Technicians, shift management, other coordinators, maintenance, process control, inspection/reliability and sustaining capital & engineering to understand site wide issues and impacts.
  • Provide backfill support on weekdays for the Chief Operating Engineer.
  • Monitors fixed cost expenditures and implements improvements to reduce controllable costs (i.e. chemical consumption).
  • Acts as the site contact to external parties for Utility related concerns and management of Utility outages.

 

Operational Excellence

  • Develops and maintains key performance indicators and critical operating parameters for steam, condensate, and boiler feed water.
  • Monitors longer term operating process performance for deviations from targets. Initiates corrective actions to optimize operations within and across process units or equipment.
  • Fosters and promotes continuous improvement in operations (i.e. HSE, efficiency, cost, productivity, etc.).
  • Provides technical input into the Utilities accounting and energy models when performing month end data input.
  • Inputs operations’ requirements in setting area maintenance priorities and weekly maintenance schedules, working closely with the Operations Maintenance Coordinator, Planners, Shift Supervisor, and Operating Technicians to ensure safe & efficient execution of the work.
  • Maintenance Workflow Management excellence including screening and routing of notifications, schedule development, technical priorities, direction on equipment preparation.
  • Assist in the development of yearly plan for unit in terms of PM execution and equipment outages.
  • Act as conduit to Maintenance organization when resources are required to meet demands.
  • Provides training/coaching on best practices and standards in operations.
  • Plans and coordinates outages, mini-shutdowns, and assists in coordination of major turnarounds, as required.
  • Supports the Training Specialist in the identification, development, and execution of training content for Operating Technicians.
  • Assists in the coaching and development of the Shift Teams.
  • Draws on in-depth technical operating expertise to develop and participate in the prioritization and scoping of projects.
  • Provides the operations technical input for the justification, prioritization, design, development & implementation of various sizes of plant facility changes (i.e. capital and expense projects).
  • Develops strong functional knowledge of the expense and sustaining capital processes (proficient with SAP, capital idea bank, etc.).
  • Participates in turnover inspections to audit and approves changes in facilities, signs off commissioning checklists, and helps develop commissioning/operating procedures that result from these plant changes. 

 

What We Are Looking For:

  • 2-year technical school diploma with 10+ years of operating experience OR 12+ years combination of post-secondary technical education and operating experience OR 12+ years of progressive operating experience.
  • 2nd Class Operating Engineer Certification is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated exceptional HSE performance.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of petrochemical manufacturing operations.
  • Familiar with applicable Safety Codes, Acts and Regulations.
  • Attention to detail and initiative.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and influence skills.
  • Strong results orientation.
  • Computer proficiency in SAP and MS office applications.
  • Strong record of attendance and time at work.

Additional Information:

  • Relocation will NOT be considered for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • This role requires up to 10% travel
  • Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasons
  • Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the units
  • Overtime and callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation
  • In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
  • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver’s license
