This position could be located in the following location(s): NOVA Head Office – Calgary, AB; Manufacturing East Region – Sarnia, ON  

  • This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Corporate Tax Team in role of Tax Accounting Technician.  Reporting to the Tax Leader, in this role you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic, collaborative and supportive environment where you can contribute to the organization. 

 

The preferred location for this position is at our NOVA Head Office (NHO) in Calgary, Alberta.  Our Manufacturing East Region near Sarnia, Ontario would also be considered.

 

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Draft account reconciliations and maintain supporting working papers with guidance as needed.
  • Generate SAP reports for tax compliance and provision processes, with support provided for system operations.
  • Run monthly trial balances and identify significant variances or new accounts.
  • Prepare monthly tax payment requests to state and federal tax jurisdictions in Canada and the United States (US) following well established processes.
  • Analyze and reconcile monthly tax payments for Canadian and US entities, with oversight from Tax Specialists.
  • Post journal entries under the direction of Canadian and US Tax Specialists.
  • Assist in various tax audits by gathering documents and information from SAP, with guidance from Tax Specialists.
  • Support transfer pricing work by facilitating data gathering as directed.
  • Assist in maintaining internal controls by generating quarterly controls templates.
  • Run SAP reports, download transaction data into Excel, sort, reconcile, and summarize transactions.
  • Manage tracking and preparation of summary working papers for charitable donations with guidance.
  • Coordinate receipt and tracking of confirmation letters for Co-op and Apprenticeship student hiring under the direction of Tax Specialists.
  • Assist with filing annual reports on a timely basis with supervision from Tax Specialists.
  • Assist in administration of SharePoint sites for NHO Finance teams as required, with guidance on protocols.
  • Perform various other duties as required with appropriate support and training.

 

What We Are Looking For:

  • University graduate (or equivalent) with 1-3 years’ related experience or 5-7 years’ combination of post-secondary education and related experience;
  • Expert computer skills are required – Excel, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint;
  • A continuous improvement mindset, including a willingness to question processes, challenge the status quo, and suggest improvements;
  • Must be flexible and open to the changes in responsibilities as business needs and priorities change;
  • Excellent organization, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills;
  • Working knowledge of financial systems (BPC/SAP) would be an advantage.

Additional Information:

  • Relocation will be considered to the nearest geographical NOVA Chemicals' location for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • This role requires up to 10% travel
