  • This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.

NOVA Chemicals, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is wholly-owned by Mubadala Investment Company of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

 

We are seeking an Environmental Engineer/Specialist to join our Sustainability team and lead the development of Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) analysis to support carbon management strategies. Reporting to the Carbon Management Leader, you will maintain, update and report PCF data, evaluate carbon accounting and PCF industry standards, and provide insights to optimize NOVA Chemicals’ environmental impact  You will have the opportunity to collaborate with multi-disciplinary groups including operations, research and development (R&D), sales/marketing, industry associations, and various other stakeholders.

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in carbon footprint analysis and life cycle assessments, excellent analytical and communication skills, and an aptitude for shaping best practices that support environmental and commercial goals.

 

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Develop and implement methodologies for calculating the product carbon footprint (PCF) of petrochemical products considering PCF standards and guidelines.
  • Maintain and update PCF and associated carbon data regularly and analyze and interpret PCF data to provide actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate PCF understanding into business decision making and communicate PCF methods and analysis with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Liaison with industry associations to understand and support changes to environmental best practices, standards and legislation; evaluate impacts to NOVA Chemicals and recommend response strategies.
  • Support the review and business case development for new opportunities with data analytics.
  • Lead data verification and certification processes as required.

 

What We Are Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (environmental, chemical, mechanical, civil) or equivalent relevant sciences or specific environmental discipline with 8+ years of practical experience with preference for applied industrial and environmental discipline work. 
  • Professional Engineer designation is preferred. 
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data management, including high level of accuracy in data analysis and reporting.
  • Fluency in digital tools for complex data analysis.
  • Experience with industrial processes and assessing process data, particularly emissions-related data. 
  • Ability to evaluate industrial standards and guidelines in a commercial context.
  • Good business acumen and understanding of petrochemicals value chain.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present findings and recommendations clearly.
  • Self-motivation and a focus on delivering quality results with the ability to work independently as well as collaborate with teams in new and dynamic situations.
  • Strong commitment to sustainability and ethical practices.
  • Ideally, the candidate will have in-depth knowledge of PCF standards and guidelines (e.g., ISO 14067, GHG Protocol, Together for Sustainability) and proficiency in using PCF calculation tools and software.
